About Me
I grew up primarily in St. Joseph, MO where I went to middle school and high school. After graduating high school I moved to Kirksville, MO where I completed my Bachelors degree in English at Truman State University. Upon completing my Bachelors degree, I decided that I wanted to continue my education and began work on my Master of Arts in Counseling, also at Truman State University.
My degree program allowed me to take classes with an emphasis in Student Affairs/Higher Education which led to my first job as a Residence Director and Student Activities Specialist at Avila University. I thoroughly enjoyed my job at the university and loved working with college students.
After leaving the university, I spent a few years working for Target Corporation before deciding to return to education. I began working for the the Saint Joseph School District as a substitute teacher while I completed my Education Specialist degree in Library Science and Information Services at the University of Central Missouri. My first position, with the North Nodaway School District, allowed me to create library programs for K-12 students. I was the only librarian in the district, making me responsible for creating and delivering elementary lessons, collaborating with faculty at all grade levels, developing a K-5 and 6-12 collection, and creating an active learning space for all students.
I am currently working as a full-time librarian for the St. Joseph School District at Bode Middle School. My buiding serves students in grades 7-8. The BMS Library Media Center serves as a space for collaboration, innovation, critical thinking, and much more.
I am passionate about creating a space that is meaningful to the school community. I participate in professional development opportunities whenever possible and am committed to researching ways to improve the library program so that it can meet the ever-evolving needs of education.
I am currently seeking full-time employment as a school librarian in a district where I can utilize my education and experience to create a library media program that fosters student learning, literacy, and growth.
