Lesson Plans

Digital Citizenship Unit

My digital citizenship unit contains three individual lessons to be used over several class periods.
The first lesson covers copyright and Creative Commons.  Students are provided with an overview and are then asked to use what they have learned to complete a scavenger hunt using technology.
The second lesson covers cyberbullying.  Following the lesson, students are asked to exhibit their understanding by completing a project (chosen from a provided list) that will contribute to a school-wide campaign against cyberbullying.
The third, and final lesson, covers digital footprints.  Students are asked to discuss what they already know about their digital footprints and then following the lesson create a presentation, using a Web 2.0 tool, showcasing how they can create a positive digital footprint.

Small Business Unit

While serving as a long-term substitute for a middle school Computer Applications teacher, I created a Small Business Unit for the 8th grade Careers class.  Over the course of this unit the students were to choose a type of business they would be interested in owning in the future and, utilizing resources found on www.sba.gov, create a business plan, store layouts, publicity, and hold discussions about how their business would fit into our community.

The students did a great job coming up with a variety of businesses and creating thorough projects that addressed topics we had discussed throughout the semester.
